Today has been terrific! In fact, this whole week has been splendid!
I am choreographing for a church production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat. Every morning this week, I get up and go teach a group of about 30 high school students my choreography, and it is literally the most fun job on the earth. Not only is it fun, it is rewarding! So many of these kids never get the chance to dance and all of them have this dancing streak that they never knew they had! It's so wonderful watching them come alive and to see how accomplished they feel when they perform a sequence. I've realized that I truly do have a gift for teaching dance. I love being able to get up with the kids and demonstrate my own choreography. I love getting to roll up my sleeves and dance with them and getting to connect with them through movement...so cool!
I signed up for my classes today. I can't believe I'm finally in college! I'm starting at a local community college. Lots of people give community colleges a bad name, and I think that's sad. The community college I'm going to is absolutely marvelous! They have the BEST theater department, the professors know their stuff, and the administration is fabulous! I met with an advisor today, and he literally spent almost two hours with me, helping me put together a schedule...it makes a person glad when people are willing to show them the ropes!
I also voted for the first time today! When the people who were administering the voting heard that it was my first time, this amazingly kind man said, "We usually try to do something for new voters." The lady at the desk said, "Unfortunately we don't have anything to give out this time around." Obviously, I wasn't expecting any sort of prize. I didn't even want anything. But that sweet man went and bought me a box of Mike and Ikes. And I mean he bought me a big box, not one of those little ones that people give out at Halloween. He gave it to me as I left...those are the kind of people that make you glad to be alive. I'm gonna write him a little note and have my dad take it up when he goes to vote.
Oh boy, I've also been having bunches of ideas on how to decorate my room. If you've ever seen Breakfast at Tiffany's (if you haven't, then I'm sad for you), you might have noticed that Paul Varjack's apartment is themed in colors of blue and gold. Actually it was Bon who first got me fascinated with this lovely color combination. The walls in my room are light, light pink...very beautiful in the sunlight, bright and crisp. But I would love to incorporate this color combination into my room by painting my headboard and rod-iron shelf a pretty periwinkle blue, with gold trim. I'm also re-doing the wallpaper in my bathroom and hope to find blue and gold wallpaper. Kind of like this here:
That's more of an aqua blue. I'm definitely going for a more periwinkle shade. I couldn't find any pictures of wallpaper with those two colors. But here is a vintage postage stamp with the two colors put together:
Oh and one last thing. My dad is looking for a car for me. Feeling like I was not born in this generation, I would love to sport a Herbie or a Woodwacker.
But unfortunately vintage cars are not practical becasue parts are nearly impossible to find. However, I am still staunchly set on getting a station wagon. Some of the newer models are actually very cute. I'm very flipped on this little number, a 1998 Volvo V70. So cute and not too big!
